Unitarian Universalist Association
Women & Religion Committee

The W & R Committee is composed of up to five women who commit to a term of three years on the committee, except for the chair who serves another year as past chair.

Terms usually begin and end with the second meeting following the January conference. It is important for the committee to be balanced and diverse in its membership, therefore care is taken to pull from the different regions in the CmwD and to balance as to age, profession, lay people and and ministers, and ethnic origins.

Members need to be a Unitarian Universalist and a member of a church in the CMwD area.

Qualities needed in members of the Women & Religion
Committee:

1. A demonstrated interest in feminist spirituality within a UU context
2. Ability to work with people
3. Good communication and human relations skills
4. A commitment to fulfill the Women and Religion Charge and the UUA Principles
5. A willingness to serve three years on the committee

Individual responsibilities: Since this committee operates on the principles of shared leadership and decision by consensus, all members share the responsibilities equally. However, certain tasks are assigned to specific members, e.g., Chair, Secretary and Treasurer.

Group responsibilities:
1. Attend all of the meetings
2. Plan and carry out specific tasks associated with the annual conference and summer
gathering
3. Help plan and make arrangements for meetings. If the meeting is at a home church, then there are additional responsibilities such as home hospitality, transportation, meals, etc.
4. Nurture and support the women on the committee and in the district
5. If a conflict arises, use conflict resolution techniques to solve the problem
