![]() What a fabulous weekend it was in Techny, Illinois February 23-25, 2007! The conference center was decorated throughout with roots and wings. Fairy figures graced the tables and tapestries, while butterflies and dragonflies fluttered on banners with twining roots. Our keynote speaker, Donna Henes, affectionately known as Mama Donna, blessed us with her presence throughout the weekend. We celebrated our roots, honored our grandmothers, and blessed the earth that supports us. In the Ceremony of Common Ground we combined samples of soil, blending them together and ultimately filling envelopes for all attendees to take home. Workshops ranged from yoga to dance to music to art and poetry. The Queen Bee Coffeehouse featured a wing dance display as well as a hilarious body bag dance. Spontaneous dancing continued well into the night at the drumming circle. The vendors were amazing; food was delicious, and the art projects were whimsical. All in all, it was a tremendous weekend of bonding and community building. Donna Henes is an acclaimed urban shaman, contemporary ceremonialist, artist and author. She has led countless public ceremonies celebrating the universal cycles of the seasons.
