To honor the Crones, Wise Women, and Grandmothers in our lives, we sing songs like Harry Belafonte's "Turn the World Around (Calypso Chant), the Women's Drumming Circle arrangement of "Ancient Mother," and Julie Shannon Geller's "We All Have Songs." Original prose and poetry are also part of our program, by writers Carol Hosmer, Misty Sheehan, Sally Gonzalez, Elly Wynia, and Oriah Mountain Dreamer.

Our Honored Crone of the day was Phyllis Martin, who read Marj Stradley's "What Is A Crone?" as the centerpiece of the song "Ancient Mother."
.
Sunday afternoon sunlight streaming through the stained glass windows warmed the Sanctuary as we were getting ready for the service.

Lori Hlaban was our Service Leader for the day. She joined us in singing, and added a Grandmother story of her own to our program. Music Coordinator Karen Haskell added her touch with musical interludes on the piano between the stories and poems.
Members of LCUUC prepared an altar with family heirlooms to enhance memories of our own Grandmothers -- we added our drums and instruments. LCUUC's joyous group of children helped us pass instruments to everyone so we could all sing and play along with "Turn the World Around" before they left for their classes. Sparked by a guided meditation written by current W&R Chair Ellymay Wynia, people related brief memories of their grandmothers, enriching us all with the warmth of remembered hugs and the smell of favorite foods cooking.
Julie Ann had planned to join us, but was ill and could not attend. It turned out that that her sister was visiting anyway. Lori gently asked the sister to read the story about their grandmother, and it was a very moving part of the service.

Thank you, people of Lake Country Church, for sharing memories of your grandmothers with us!
