Welcome!
The Women & Religion (W&R) Committee is a standing committee of
the Central Midwest District of the Unitarian Universalist Association.
The Mission of the Unitarian Universalist Association's Central Midwest District Women and Religion Committee is to support women in their search for the Inner Feminine Divine, in an atmosphere of connectedness, safety, and joy.
The W&R Committee sponsors a Winter WomanSpirit conference at a different location within the District each year, along with a yearly Summer WomanSpirit Conference at Ronora Lodge in Michigan. Both events are organized by "local" committees with the help of the District W&R Committee.
Registrations for Winter WomanSpirit 2013 will now be available at the door!
The Winter WomanSpirit 2013 Conference will be
hosted by Unitarian Universalist Church West
13001 West North Avenue, Brookfield, WI 53005
February 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, 2013
*UPDATE: January 30th, 2013
Dear Winter WomanSpirit 2013 attendees,
The District and local WomanSpirit planners of the CMwD Women
& Religion Committee regret to announce that due to illness, Holly Near will
not be joining us this coming weekend.
While in Central America last week working for social justice, Holly
contracted a virus which has her vocal chords swollen and her ears completely
blocked. To fly meant the possibility of bursting her ear drums. To sing meant the possibility of permanently injuring her voice. Her doctor felt that the risk was simply too great.
Holly worked with Women and Religion to create this program for
over a year, and she would like very much to be with us.This is only the third time in her 50 year performance history that she has had to cancel an event due to illness.
We are pleased to report that Melanie DeMore has been hand selected by Holly to be with us for the Saturday Keynote address, and workshop, concert and the two Sunday morning sermons. The title of her concert and Keynote is
“Vocal Activism: Raise your Voice in Song”. Holly would like to ask that people support both the conference and the concert, and has promised to return to us in 2015 (attendees at this year’s conference will be given special ticket prices for that event!).
Melanie is a vibrant, energetic Bay area musician, well known to the Feminists, Lesbian and Unitarian Universalist communities on the west coast. Her videos are available on YouTube, and her recent appearance in Cincinnati at St John’s UU Church was thrilling; she performed to a sold out house. Melanie has a growing following across the US, and it is exciting to have her with us as her career begins to soar.
The Women and Religion Committee for over 30 years has provided a
weekend for women of spiritual depth and exploration, and this weekend will be a
part of that great tradition. We are sure that Holly has sent us a musician of great passion and promise, and our time together will be uplifting and energizing. While we will miss Holly deeply, we look forward to experiencing and supporting a new and transformative vocal presence in Melanie DeMore.
We can’t wait to see you there!
